2017 SUMMIT
The 2017 Northern Tribal Border Issues Summit (“Summit”) is intended to provide an opportunity for leaders of Indigenous nations and tribes located on or near the United States – Canada border to discuss border crossing and related issues. As the Trump and Trudeau Administrations develop and implement their border policies, Indigenous peoples who live on or near the border and who cross it for political, social, cultural, and commercial reasons must be part of the discussion. The Summit is intended to generate a set of priority issues that can then be used as a foundation for collective and tribe-specific advocacy efforts. Speakers will include tribal leaders, CBP/DHS representatives, the Assembly of First Nations, and Member(s) of Congress. The Summit will culminate with a discussion on whether to form an inter-tribal advocacy alliance to maximize political and policy results in Washington, D.C. and Ottawa.
